Georgia Woman Dies In Scooter Accident
A 33 year old Athens woman was killed last week, when her Honda scooter was involved in a head on collision with a car. Athens-Clarke County police are still investigating the accident, but an article published in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the woman’s scooter strayed over the center line and into the path of the approaching vehicle. Atlanta Truck Driver’s Error Devastates Family
It’s amazing how a simple act of negligence can bring tragedy to a young family in a matter of seconds. According to a story on Atlanta’s 11alive news last month, a small truck carrying a married couple and their two young daughters was struck by a runaway tractor trailer while driving down Highway 41 in Emerson, Georgia. The mother, Kyra Karr, 31, was killed in the truck accident; her husband, Reed Karr, 36, and their two daughter were hospitalized in serious but stable condition. It took rescue crews two hours to extract the three survivors from their wrecked vehicle.Read more…

If you live or work in the metro Atlanta area, you need to be extra alert when walking the sidewalks and crossing streets. According to an article in Atlanta Magazine, the Atlanta metro area is the eighth most dangerous area for pedestrians in the country. Two Atlanta Children Killed in Wreck
“Heartbreaking” is the only word that can come close to describing what happened in suburban Clayton County last month. According to a story in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, a woman and her two children were crossing Georgia 138 when her Honda Accord was T-boned by a semi truck. The woman survived with a leg injury, but the children—a five year old boy and a six year old girl—died at the scene. The cause of the car accident has not yet been determined, but a witness at the scene reported that the mother claimed that her brakes “went out.” Witnesses also say that both the mother and the truck’s driver were devastated.Read more…
Richmond County Woman Receives $1.57 million Malpractice Settlement
Earlier this summer, Melissa Gravitt won a substantial malpractice suit against her former Augusta OBGYN, Dr. Peter Grossman. According to an article in The Augusta Chronicle, in 2011, the 36 year old Gravitt underwent a laparoscopic surgical procedure to increase her possibility of becoming pregnant. During the operation, she suffered a small bowel perforation. Because bowel perforation is considered an acceptable risk for that type of surgery, it was not the cause for Ms. Gravitt’s claim. It was the doctor’s aftercare negligence that brought the medical malpractice suit.Read more…
Federal Authorities Investigating Georgia Nursing Home
Last April, 77 year old Carol Sheppard was rushed to the emergency room with a three inch gash on her head and bleeding on the brain. What else nurses and doctors discovered was very disturbing. Sheppard, a resident of the New London Healthcare Center for four years, was found to have a bed sore that went to her bone, severely ingrown toenails, an open wound on her hand with a bandage that hadn’t been changed for days. Hospital staff also described her as being in overall, poor hygiene.Read more…
Three Die In Georgia Car Crash
Tragedy struck three Conyers, Georgia area families late last month when a car traveling eastbound on I-20 ran off the road and hit a tree. According to a report from ABC affiliate WJBF Channel 6, investigators believe the car was speeding when the accident took place.Read more…

Just last month, a car accident in DeKalb County killed three people. According to WSB-TV in Atlanta, a white Mercedes SUV ran a red light and hit a car carrying two women and one man. The Danger of Distracted Driving in Georgia
People are dying at an alarming rate along Georgia roadways this year. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, almost 700 people have been killed in the first seven months of 2015. That is 14 percent higher than the number of traffic deaths we had during the same period in 2014. We could hit 1,300 driving deaths statewide by the end of the year.
