11,000 Electric Smokehouse Smokers Recalled Due to Potential Fire Hazard
According to a report by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Masterbuilt Manufacturing Inc., a company based in Columbus, Georgia, has recalled around 11,000 smokers on July 18.
The official name of the product is “Electric Smokehouse Smoker.” The smoker is upright, powered through electric means, accompanied by a remote control, and can be described as rectangular with a black matte color. Its door is stainless steel, and one can see the inside of the smoker through a sizeable glass window. A control panel can be found on the top front of the unit.
The smokers were sold in two models. Model 20070312 is about 32-inches high, 17-inches wide, and 16-inches deep while Model 20070512 measures about 40-inches high, 22-inches wide, and 16-inches deep. The model number is located on a serial plate on the rear panel of the smoker. Another identifier of the recalled product is the inclusion of a screen printed Masterbuilt logo on both the window and the serial plate.
An investigation of six consumer reports found the woodchip tray inside the smoker to be faulty. Wood inside the smoker would combust and blow the smoker’s cabinet door open, creating a potential fire hazard.
The smokers, manufactured in China, were sold nationally at Bass Pro Shops and Cabelas stores from May through August 2012. They cost between $270 and $430.
